The developer behind The Battle of Polytopia, Midjiwan, has launched a new studio and co-working space in Stockholm, Sweden named Game Town to support the local indie game development community.
Game Town is not only Midjiwan’s new headquarters but also a collaborative workspace for numerous other game development teams.
Among the developers already set to join Game Town are Toppluva AB, the creators of Grand Mountain Adventure, Warm Kitten AB behind Justin Wack and the Big Time Hack, and educational games outfit Gro Play AB. Additionally, it will also house the operations of Sweden’s games trade body, Dataspelsbranschen.
Midjiwan expects more developers to join the space in the coming months, creating a hub of creativity and innovation within the local industry. Game Town will host various events such as mixers, game showcases, and networking gatherings to foster collaboration and community among developers.
Situated in Södermalm, an island in Stockholm known for hosting major game development studios like Paradox, DICE, and Epic Games, Game Town is strategically located at the heart of one of the world’s most densely populated areas for game developers.
“Game Town will provide a professional yet welcoming environment for smaller game studios to work and collaborate among like-minded individuals,” said Christian Lövstedt, General Manager of Midjiwan. “Our goal is to create a community that shares a passion for gaming and game development.”
Per Strömbäck, chairman of Dataspelsbranschen, remarked, “With at least 3,000 game developers within a kilometer radius of Södermalm, this area may well be one of the most concentrated hubs for game development in the world. Game Town’s strategic location will provide a central space for the vibrant gaming community to thrive and grow.”
