The Pokémon Company’s popular MOBA game, Pokémon Unite, will no longer be available in Belgium and the Netherlands after November 30th, 2025.
Players in these countries will have over a year to enjoy the game before the service ends, but all in-app purchases, including Aeos Gems and the subscription service, will be discontinued from October 31st, 2024.
Changes Ahead
Although no official reason has been given for discontinuing the game in these regions, both Belgium and the Netherlands have strict regulations concerning gambling and loot boxes in video games.
As a result, The Pokémon Company is ceasing all in-app purchases in anticipation of these regulations, which means the game will no longer be monetized in these countries.
Players will be able to continue playing for free until the service ends, providing a 14-month window for them to enjoy the game with their existing purchases.
Service Termination
“We regret to announce that Pokémon Unite will no longer be available in Belgium and the Netherlands starting November 30, 2025,” the Pokémon Unite website states.
“As of November 30, 2025, the service for Pokémon Unite will cease in Belgium and the Netherlands. The game will no longer be downloadable on mobile devices or Nintendo Switch after this date.
“In-game items, such as Aeos Gems and Subscriptions, will not be available for purchase after October 31st, 2024. Make sure to utilize all in-game items before November 30th, 2025.”
At the time of its discontinuation in Belgium and the Netherlands, Pokémon Unite will be four years old. These regions do not contribute significantly to the game’s revenue or downloads, with the US and Japan being the main lucrative markets for the MOBA.
Overall, the game has generated $83 million by its third anniversary, thanks to the support from players in key markets like the US and Japan as reported by AppMagic.
