Today is Pokémon Day, marking the 28th anniversary of the massive franchise and bringing exciting announcements. Mobile fans are thrilled to learn about a new game launching this year: Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.
Pocket was revealed during a Pokémon Presents presentation via stream, receiving the most screen time of any game shown. This game brings the total number of operating Pokémon mobile games to six.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will digitize the popular card game for mobile. It is a collaborative effort between The Pokémon Company, Creatures Inc (the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game creator), and DeNA (developer of Pokémon Masters).
Immersive Gameplay Coming Soon
In this upcoming card collector game, players will receive two free packs of Pokémon cards per day. They can open these digital packs to collect cards with dynamic art styles, finding rare cards indicated by diamonds and special shiny cards just like in the physical game.
Since social elements are a big part of Pokémon’s appeal, trading with friends will be a key feature. Players can organize their collected cards into display boards, binders, and battle decks – all on their mobile devices.
Players can build teams and battle with their collected cards, with the chance to obtain stronger cards by opening more packs. Monetization details were not shown in the Pokémon Presents, but it was mentioned that only two packs will be available for free each day, indicating that extra packs may be available for purchase.
For collectors who appreciate Pokémon card artwork, Pocket will feature “Immersive Cards” that can be interacted with and explored in detail. These cards will showcase characters in 3D and colorful art styles that push the boundaries of traditional card games.
“Since this game uses mobile devices, we’re innovating to deliver a visually stunning experience digitally. Immersive Cards are one way we’re achieving this,” said Creatures Inc President and CEO Yuji Kitano.
“Our three companies are working hard to provide a fun experience for both existing Pokémon Trading Card Game players and newcomers.”
At last year’s Pokémon Presents event, Pokémon Sleep was unveiled, catering to fans who have grown up with the franchise.
