PlayStation announced new additions to its Plus catalog on Wednesday, set to be available starting August 20. The update includes three cult classic shooters from the TimeSplitters franchise, one of which has not been available on newer consoles until now.
However, there’s a condition – to play the series, you must have PlayStation Premium, the highest tier of PlayStation Plus. This tier provides access to the classics catalog, where the TimeSplitters games reside.
Considering the beloved nature of these first-person shooters in the style of Perfect Dark, an upgrade might be worthwhile for fans of this genre. The first TimeSplitters was previously a PlayStation 2 exclusive and is now available on another console for the first time, alongside the other two titles released on Xbox and GameCube but now accessible through backward compatibility on newer Xbox consoles.
These additions to PlayStation Plus serve as a form of retribution for the TimeSplitters series following the closure of developer Free Radical Design in December 2023 due to financial challenges faced by Embracer Group. The fate of the series remains uncertain, but for now, players can enjoy the entire series at no additional cost.
PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers have a range of must-play games to explore. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a standout title, particularly on PlayStation 5 with enhanced visuals, ray tracing, and shorter loading times. Cult of the Lamb is a quirky dark comedy about building a cult with adorable creatures, and its inclusion coincides with the significant Unholy Alliance update bringing two-player local co-op.
