PlayMakers has secured $1.5 million in pre-seed funding to enhance user-generated content across a variety of games.
Launched just a year ago by Ilan Nabeth, Maxime Niankouri, and Costantino Carrega, the PlayMakers team, composed of former Homa employees, has already achieved significant success with a combined 600 million game downloads during their previous positions.
The pre-seed funding round attracted significant interest from prominent investors, with RockawayX leading the way. Key business angels such as Sébastien Borget, Vincent Hart de Keating, and Hugues Ouvard also joined in, supporting PlayMakers’ vision of turning gamers into creators.
PlayMakers aims to empower players to become content creators through a platform that enables game studios to leverage the passion and skills of their community. Users can create new game assets like 3D characters, animations, and music, among others.
This white-label platform is customized to each game community’s unique characteristics, facilitating easy integration of player-made creations into the game with a single click. Developers can refresh gaming experiences with new content or monetize the creations, unlocking new revenue streams.
Nabeth, CEO of PlayMakers, stated, “With the rise of generative AI, more players are becoming creators. It’s easier to create valuable content, and players are eager to contribute historically. With PlayMakers, we are helping small and large game studios engage their players in game design through a dedicated and robust platform.”
As the gaming industry embraces user-generated content, PlayMakers distinguishes itself as a pioneer. Major industry players like Epic Games and Krafton have made substantial investments in user-generated content, with Fortnite allocating 40% of its net profits to creators and Krafton setting aside a $100 million fund for their creators.
The raised funds will be used to enhance PlayMakers’ toolset and expand the team to support numerous studios eager to collaborate with the company. PlayMakers aims to be the leading platform for fostering gaming community involvement, offering a unique experience for gamers and developers.
Martin Kupka of RockawayX commented, “We believe that the next wave of web3 games will focus on turning players into creators, and PlayMakers provides an easy-to-implement solution for developers to gather, curate, and integrate player creations. We already see strong market demand and look forward to continuing to support PlayMakers on their journey.”
