Pixelmon has garnered $8 million in funding to develop a series of Web3 games, signaling a turnaround for the company in the gaming world. Pixelmon’s Web3 project took flight in February 2022 through the sale of 10,000 non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which raised a substantial amount of cryptocurrency. Despite initial criticism and setbacks, Singapore-based LiquidX, a Web3 venture capital studio, acquired majority control of Pixelmon in September 2022, sparking a journey to restore the company’s credibility.
Under new leadership at LiquidX and a reinvigorated focus, Pixelmon is primed to debut its Web3 open world survival game, combined with evolutionary improvements, ownership rights, and a cohesive gaming universe set for a Q1 launch. The company’s focus extends beyond gaming, as it plans to expand its decentralized IP across a wide range of verticals, including merchandise, trading card games, animated series, and comic books. Future plans also include a major release of a free-to-play desktop title, Arena, and development of a highly anticipated open-world adventure game, Hunting Grounds.
