Pinterest innovated with collages last year, offering users the ability to combine images to create new content. Now, they are introducing a Remix feature to encourage more user-generated collages.
Similar to Remix features on platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, Pinterest’s Remix feature allows users to put their own spin on existing collages. Users can choose to disable remixing for their collages if desired.
To create a Remix, users can select the “Remix a collage card” option in the collage tool or tap the Remix button on a collage they discover on Pinterest. The final collage will credit both the user and the original creator.
In addition to the Remix feature, Pinterest is simplifying the process of downloading and sharing collages in video formats like regular video, timelapse, unscramble, ink, and analog. This opens up opportunities for creators to use Pinterest as a short video creation tool.
Users can also download collages as images. Pinterest plans to introduce integrations to directly share collages on other social platforms later this year.
According to David Temple, Head of Two Twenty at Pinterest, collages have been well-received, with high engagement rates, particularly among Gen Z users who use collages as a creative outlet.
Since the beginning of the year, Pinterest has seen a significant increase in collage creation across various use cases, such as fashion planning, beauty routines, and interior design. Gen Z users make up a large portion of daily collage creators.
Collages originated from Pinterest’s iOS app Shuffles in 2022 before being integrated into the main app last year.
Pinterest has also started monetizing collages by allowing advertisers to create collage ads using product pins from their catalogs. Brands like Nike, John Lewis, and Bumble have already utilized collages as part of their advertising strategy.
With over 522 million global monthly active users, Gen Z remains a key demographic for Pinterest’s growth and engagement.
