Phasmophobia, a successful co-op ghost hunting game that has been in early access since 2020, is making its way to consoles. Scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 29, just in time for Halloween.
Initially released on PC in 2020, Phasmophobia gained immense popularity during COVID-19 due to its engaging co-op multiplayer feature. It has amassed over 20 million players on Steam and won Best Debut at the 2020 Game Awards. Although the game is still in early access, it is now transitioning to consoles.
Phasmophobia will be available only in digital format for now and will have a price tag of $20. Kinetic Games aims to deliver 4K visuals and 60 frames per second on both platforms. The game will feature trophy support on the new platforms and utilize haptic feedback on the PS5’s DualSense controller. However, it will not support the adaptive triggers on the gamepad, and voice support will not be enabled on consoles at launch.
Excitingly, the PS5 version will include PlayStation VR2 support, adding another layer of immersion for players. With the original release already being a standout game for PC VR headsets, this PSVR2 support could be a significant boost for Sony’s VR platform.
In a preview ahead of the console release date, Kinetic Games emphasized its continuous support for the game, which has maintained its popularity over the years. The studio’s upcoming Halloween event will introduce a shared community goal for players. Additionally, Kinetic Games plans to enhance the game further before reaching a 1.0 launch, intending to replace all ghost models for more distinct appearances.
At the moment, the only platform excluded from the release is the Nintendo Switch. Kinetic Games has clarified that there are no current plans to bring Phasmophobia to the Switch, citing visual and technical considerations crucial to the ghost-hunting gameplay. However, there is hope that the rumored Switch 2 will have the capabilities to run the game.
