PGL recently made a big announcement regarding 8 new Dota 2 tournaments scheduled to take place between May 2024 and 2026. The inaugural event in this series is Wallachia Season 1, set to be hosted in Bucharest, Romania.
Wallachia Season 1 Invited Teams
PGL has now revealed the first 10 teams that have accepted invitations for Wallachia Season 1, as well as the tournament format. While there are no major surprises among the invited teams, some will experience LAN events for the first time in 2024.
Western Europe is well-represented with 3 confirmed teams, followed by 2 each from Eastern Europe. MENA, China, Southeast Asia, and South America currently have 1 representative each. With 10 teams announced, there are still 6 slots left, with the likelihood of seeing 1 more team from each region joining the competition.
Western Europe | Gaimin Gladiators | Team Liquid | Team Secret |
Eastern Europe | Team Spirit | BetBoom Team
China/SEA | Xtreme Gaming | Aurora
North America | Shopify Rebellion
South America | Heroic | ||
MENA | Team Falcons |
The notable absence of certain teams is what adds intrigue to the list of invites. It’s expected that teams like BetBoom Dacha and DreamLeague season 22 champions Team Falcons would be included. While fans of Team Secret will be pleased to bypass qualifiers, OG might have some questions to address.
It’s important to note that OG is undergoing changes once again. They showed promising results with Timado at DreamLeague, but the position 1 on the team remains technically vacant. Without a solid roster, committing to the tournament could pose challenges for them.
The Future of Dota Tournaments
After a period of no tournament announcements, there has been a sudden influx of Dota tournaments being unveiled. With ESL One Birmingham, DreamLeague, Elite League, and The International set in Copenhagen, the competitive scene is buzzing with activity.
Wallachia Season 1 marks PGL’s continued commitment to Dota esports, showcasing the vibrancy of the scene and potentially paving the way for more third-party tournament organizers to invest in the future.
