Since the disbandment of the DPC in 2023, the professional Dota scene has been uncertain. While The International 2024 and ESL have stepped up to organize Majors and DreamLeagues, the expected influx of third-party tournaments has not materialized. However, PGL is making a comeback in 2024.
Any dedicated Dota fan is familiar with PGL. They have organized the 2023 DPC leagues, various Majors like Arlington and Stockholm, and The International itself. Now, they are gearing up for the next phase.
8 PGL Dota events announced
PGL has announced that they will be hosting 8 S-tier Dota 2 events over the next 3 years. While specific details are scarce at the moment, the first event is scheduled to take place from May 10th to 19th in Bucharest, Romania. The second event is expected in November, likely following The International as seen with the Kuala Lumpur Major in 2023.
Continuing their tradition, all PGL tournaments will include open and closed qualifiers. This ensures the top players compete on a global platform, sustaining the competitive Dota 2 scene. Despite retirements and roster changes, the veteran players remain prominent in Dota. Perhaps it’s time for new talent to rise.
