When you join a new social network, you start with zero friends, zero followers, and zero likes. However, as you begin posting content, you may start receiving more likes and comments, leading to new followers. This positive feedback loop can motivate you to post more. A new app called Palmsy aims to provide a similar social media experience by allowing you to post freely and receive likes.
However, the unique aspect of Palmsy is that no one can actually see the posts.
You can create and publish as many posts as you want, including images. But all of these posts exist in a digital void. Developer Pat Nakajima confirmed that no post leaves your device, and all likes are simulated.
The app, available for both iPhone and iPad, reads your contact list to generate fake likes on your posts. Since all data remains on your device, no contact information is transmitted to a server.
“It can be amusing to receive likes from contacts you haven’t interacted with in years. It can also help in cleaning up unnecessary contacts,” Nakajima explained in the app’s FAQ section.
You can use the app as a personal diary or a space to unleash your creativity without judgment — the choice is yours.
The developer recently added advanced features that allow users to control the number of likes on a post and the duration for which those likes will appear: seconds, minutes, hours, or days.
Several apps have emerged in the past to help users limit their social media usage and explore creative expression without consequences. For instance, Brizzly, relaunched by former Google Reader product manager Jason Shellen in 2018, lets you type and send posts that disappear instantly.
