Blizzard Entertainment surprised gamers by dropping Overwatch 2 on Xbox Game Pass, even though the game is already free to play on Xbox.
The addition is aimed at encouraging players to link their Battle.net and Xbox accounts. By linking, players will receive six exclusive skins: Cardboard Reinhardt, Turtleship D.Va, Cyberdragon Hanzo, Street Runner Genji, Bee Mercy, and Cleric Lifeweaver. (The idea of Reinhardt in a cardboard suit is charming.) Additionally, players will get 30 Mythic Prisms to use in the Mythic Shop for other skins.
Linked accounts will gain access to Overwatch 2 shop cosmetics from the past three seasons — seasons 9 to 11. The available cosmetics will be updated each season for linked Game Pass players. Blizzard is also offering a 10% XP boost.
Players have from September 17 to November 11 to link their accounts and claim all the perks. The rewards will remain active as long as players have an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Instructions on how to connect accounts can be found in the blog post linked above or through this support article.
In addition to this announcement, there is an exciting Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft crossover to celebrate WoW’s 20th anniversary. Players can potentially unlock skins like Sylvanas Windrunner Widowmaker, Lich King Reinhardt, Thrall Zenyatta, and Diamond Magni Torbjorn.
This collaboration is part of several Game Pass/Activision Blizzard crossovers that have taken place since Microsoft acquired the company for $69 billion in 2023. Games like Diablo 4 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are available for Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass for Console subscribers. The next addition, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, is set to launch on October 25 for the aforementioned Game Pass plans.
