Smart ring manufacturer Oura has launched a new section in its app called Oura Labs to test out new features and gather user feedback. One of the initial features being rolled out is Symptom Radar, which tracks strain markers on the body to detect changes in health.
Symptom Radar will monitor biometric signals such as body temperature range, respiratory rate, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability.
The Symptom Radar feature is designed to alert users to sudden changes in their body. It will display a notification under the Readiness Score section to indicate any variations in symptoms, prompting users to rest if necessary. Users who enable this feature will not receive notifications from rest mode.
Oura mentioned that while rest mode prompts are general, Symptom Radar prompts are more detailed and specific. It’s important for users to understand that Symptom Radar is not a diagnostic tool and should not be used as a substitute for medical advice.
Shyamal Patel, Oura’s Head of Science, explained how the company’s R&D department regularly releases features for internal testing. Patel stated, “Oura Labs provides a structured approach for users to engage with new features we are developing. Users will have a dedicated space within the app to interact with early-stage concepts in Oura Labs.”
Users have the flexibility to opt in and out of the experimental space at any time, providing direct feedback on the experimental features as well as general product feedback through Oura Labs.
In recent news, Oura began selling its rings on Amazon following their availability on BestBuy.com in April 2023.
