Fnatic recently suffered a close defeat to G2 in the LEC Winter playoffs, and Lee Jones interviewed their top laner Óscar “Oscarinin” Muñoz to gather his thoughts on the series.
What do you think went wrong against G2? Are there any positives you can take from the series?
Oscarinin: In my opinion, we underperformed as a team, and I personally had a really bad series. Despite this, I believe that even at our subpar performance, we were actually the better team in reality. If we had played at our normal level, I’m confident that we would have won. The games felt strange, and we didn’t execute our strategies as we should have. Overall, it was just a bad day for us. But I believe we are in a good position to improve.
Lee Jones: G2 is considered to be above the rest of the LEC right now, but you almost defeated them today in a close series.
Is Fnatic close to that level as well then?
Oscarinin: Yes, I believe so. There are some issues that we need to address, and once we do that, we can definitely surpass G2. If we had performed better individually, we would have been the better team today. So, if we can solve our problems, I think we can become the best team.
Lee Jones: G2 had an extra day to rest and prepare while Fnatic played this series having also been in action yesterday.
Do you think that could’ve had an effect on the outcome?
Oscarinin: I believe it did affect our sleep and routine to some extent, but it’s not an excuse. We just need to prepare better for such situations. However, I do think it’s advantageous for the team that has an extra day of rest.
What would a successful season on the whole look like for Fnatic and also for you personally?
Oscarinin: For me, winning is the ultimate goal. Anything less than winning would be considered a failure.
What’s been the biggest change since Jun joined?
Oscarinin: I believe the bot lane has made significant improvements since Jun joined. They work together really well, and their aggressive style has been very effective. I think they performed exceptionally well today and have resolved some issues they had previously. Overall, they are working cohesively and aggressively, with strong laning skills.
Lee Jones: Trymbi’s arrival was thought to have brought a big help with shot-calling, so how have those responsibilities changed after the roster swap?
How has the transition been from Trymbi to Jun?
I believe Trymbi played a role in shot-calling, but Ivan [Razork] has been the primary shot-caller before and after the roster swap. He provides a lot of direction in the game and is essentially the leader in the game. He has been doing a great job, and we don’t really miss Trymbi’s shot-calling.
