Mobile device batteries are not only improving but evolving. Modern smartphones can now last at least 24 hours between charges, thanks to innovative work by OnePlus and Oppo. Reportedly, these companies are working on a 7,000mAh battery for a future smartphone, potentially reshaping smartphone design and usage.
According to leakster Digital Chat Station (as reported by Android Authority), this large battery could feature in an upcoming smartphone. Previously, it was expected that the OnePlus 13 would have a 6,000mAh battery.
The rumored phone with the 7,000mAh battery is not likely to be the OnePlus 13 but another model, possibly a midrange device from OnePlus or Oppo.
While phones with 7,000mAh batteries exist, like the Samsung Galaxy F62 and Galaxy M51, they often result in larger devices. Most best-selling phones currently hover around the 5,000mAh mark. If OnePlus and Oppo release phones with 7,000mAh batteries, it is hoped they can maintain a slim profile.
For example, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max have similar battery capacities. The OnePlus 12 currently boasts a 5400mAh battery. The hope is that any new models with 7,000mAh batteries will be thinner than previous attempts.
Android Authority points out the prominently advertised 5,500mAh silicon-based battery in the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro, which offers higher density, potentially hinting at the technology that could be used for the 7,000mAh battery without compromising on size or weight.
