Strands is a stimulating daily puzzle brought to you by the New York Times. A more challenging twist on the traditional word search, this puzzle will test your observational skills.
Similar to popular games like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can prove to be quite tricky on certain days. If you find yourself stuck and in need of some assistance, don’t hesitate to check out the solved puzzle below.
How to play Strands
To begin solving a Strands puzzle, your objective is to uncover the “theme words” hidden within the letter grid. Manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping on them to form words; double-tap the last letter to confirm. When you correctly identify a word, it will be highlighted in blue and become unselectable.
Even if you encounter words that are not part of the theme, don’t worry! Discovering three non-theme words that are at least four letters long will earn you a hint — revealing the letters of one of the theme words for you to unscramble.
All letters on the grid are utilized to spell out the theme words without any overlap. Each letter is used once, and only once.
Within each puzzle, you’ll find a special “spangram” — a theme word (or words) that describe the puzzle’s theme and spans two opposite sides of the board. Upon uncovering the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
The objective is to complete the puzzle swiftly while minimizing the use of hints.
