Strands is a fresh daily puzzle concept introduced by the New York Times. A more challenging version of the traditional word search, this puzzle will test your observational skills.
Similar to Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can be a tough nut to crack on some days. It’s perfectly okay to seek some assistance when needed. If you find yourself stuck and require the answers to today’s Strands puzzle, take a look at the solved puzzle below.
How to play Strands
To begin a Strands puzzle, your aim is to uncover the “theme words” hidden within the grid of letters. You can manipulate letters by dragging or tapping to form words; double-tap the final letter to confirm. When you identify the correct word, the letters will be highlighted in blue and become unselectable.
Even if you find a word that isn’t part of the theme, it is still helpful! Every three non-theme words you uncover, each at least four letters long, will provide you with a hint — the letters of one of the theme words will be revealed for you to unscramble.
Every letter on the grid is utilized to spell out the theme words without any overlap. Each letter is used once and only once.
Each puzzle contains a “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that describes the puzzle’s theme and touches two opposing sides of the board. Upon discovering the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
The goal is to complete the puzzle swiftly without relying too heavily on hints.
