How to play Strands
To begin a Strands puzzle, your goal is to uncover the “theme words” hidden within the grid of letters. You can manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping to form words. Double-tap the last letter to confirm your word. If you guess correctly, the letters will be highlighted in blue and become unselectable.
Finding words that are not part of the theme also helps you progress. For every three non-theme words with a minimum of four letters each, you’ll receive a hint. This hint will reveal the letters of one of the theme words that you must unscramble.
All the letters on the grid are used to spell out the theme words without any overlap. Each letter is used exactly once.
Each puzzle features a “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that describes the puzzle’s theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. When you locate the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
Your goal should be to complete the puzzle swiftly and minimize the use of hints.
