Strands is a brand new daily puzzle from the New York Times that offers a challenging twist on traditional word searches. To successfully solve this puzzle, you’ll need a sharp eye and a knack for wordplay.
Similar to popular games like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, some days Strands can be particularly tricky to crack. If you find yourself stuck and in need of some assistance, don’t hesitate to peek at the solved puzzle below.
How to play Strands
Each Strands puzzle begins with the challenge of uncovering the “theme words” hidden within a grid of letters. You can manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping to form words, and double-tap the final letter to confirm your selection. When you identify a correct word, the letters will be highlighted in blue and become unselectable.
Even if you stumble upon words that are not part of the theme, they still provide valuable clues. For every three non-theme words you discover that are at least four letters long, you’ll receive a hint—a revelation of the letters comprising one of the theme words that you’ll need to unscramble.
Every letter in the grid is utilized to spell out the theme words, with no overlapping letters. Each letter is used exactly once in the puzzle.
Every puzzle includes a “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that relates to the puzzle’s theme and connects two opposing sides of the board. Upon discovering the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
Strive to complete the puzzle swiftly without relying too heavily on hints.
