The RPG phenomenon Genshin Impact from HoYoverse has exceeded an estimated $5 billion in mobile earnings in mainland China, as reported by Niko Partners.
Of this player spending, over $2.2 billion has been on iOS according to Sensor Tower data, with the remaining amount being estimated spending on third-party app stores.
Genshin Impact is also expected to reach over $4 billion in mobile revenue outside of China this year, and is projected to hit $10 billion in total earnings across iOS and Android by 2025.
Increased competition
Niko Partners observed a decline in Genshin Impact’s mobile revenue over the past year, attributing it to a more competitive RPG market.
New RPG titles like Kuro Games’ Wuthering Waves, Netmarble’s Solo Leveling: Arise, and SumZap’s Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade have entered the mobile market over the past 12 months, posing as new competitors.
Additionally, Niko Partners noted that HoYoverse’s own games, including Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero, are competing with each other, leading to cannibalization concerns.
Despite the decline in Genshin Impact’s mobile earnings, Zenless Zone Zero has exceeded $150 million in revenue in its first three months, and HoYoverse has once again secured a spot in the Top 50 Mobile Game Makers list for this year.
