The roster of outstanding iPhone emulators continues to grow, especially after new EU regulations, with the most recent addition being iDOS 3. This emulator enables you to play MS-DOS games on your iPhone or iPad.
Chaoji Li, the developer, announced the app’s approval last week after facing challenges during the App Store submission process over several months.
In a blog post, Li expressed relief that Apple had finally come to a sensible decision. He still remains cautious about the future despite being thrilled with the approval. “Are we good from now on?” he pondered.
iDOS is a well-established app that creates a nostalgic DOS environment using DOSBox, allowing you to run DOS games while interacting with them through touch controls, an on-screen keyboard, and a trackpad. The app had been available on the App Store for years until it was removed in 2021 due to violations of Apple’s guidelines, as explained by Li in this post.
Despite facing rejection a couple of times, iDOS 3, a renamed version of iDOS 2, eventually made it to the App Store. Inspired by the success of UTM SE, a slower version of an open-source PC emulator, Li persisted in making iDOS 3 available for iPhones and iPads at a nominal price of $1.
