Motorola has made a significant move by introducing longer software update support for its latest Android phone, the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. This device is expected to receive five years of OS upgrades and security patches, a departure from the previous standard offered by the company.
While this falls short of the seven-year promises made by some other companies like Samsung and Google, it still represents a notable increase in support for Motorola users. This shift is particularly surprising considering that the Edge 50 Neo is positioned as a midrange phone, unlike Motorola’s flagship models.
The Edge 50 Neo features a 6.4-inch display and is set to launch in India on September 16 following its European debut. Powered by a Dimensity 7300 chip, the phone comes in configurations with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. It boasts an LTPO OLED screen, a 4,310mAh battery, 68W wired charging, and 15W wireless charging. The camera setup includes a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP 3x telephoto lens, and a 32MP front-facing camera.
Hopefully, this move by Motorola with the Edge 50 Neo signals a positive trend for extended software support across its lineup. While the three-year update promise is an improvement, it still lags behind the support offered by competitors like Samsung and Google for their flagship models. Despite this, the Edge 50 Neo’s pricing in Europe at 499 euros or about $551 makes it a compelling option for users looking for a balance between features and affordability.
