We’re only four months into 2024, and Motorola has already made significant announcements. Following the launch of several new Moto G phones, the company has introduced the new Motorola Edge 50 series.
With three phones in total, this series presents strong alternatives to some of the top Android phones available today, such as the Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24 series. Here’s everything you need to know.
Motorola Edge 50 Ultra
Let’s begin with the most fascinating of the trio: the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra. This flagship release for 2024 from Motorola boasts impressive specifications.
The design stands out as one of the key features of the Edge 50 Ultra. It is available in three distinct styles, including Forest Gray, Peach Fuzz, and Nordic Wood. Two of the styles feature a vegan leather back, while the Nordic Wood version has a real wood back, reminiscent of the Moto X series. All variations come with an aluminum frame, IP68 dust/water resistance, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the display. The 6.7-inch OLED panel offers a 1220p resolution, HDR10+ support, a 144Hz refresh rate, and 2500 nits of peak brightness.
The camera setup is impressive, featuring a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus, and a 64MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The front camera is also a 50MP sensor.
In terms of specifications, the Edge 50 Ultra includes a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, 512GB to 1TB of storage, a 4500mAh battery, 125-watt wired charging, and up to 50W wireless charging. Priced starting at 999 euros ($1,063), it offers a comprehensive flagship experience for 2024.
Motorola Edge 50 Pro
Slightly below the Edge 50 Ultra is the Motorola Edge 50 Pro. While it lacks the wood option, it still offers various vegan leather styles such as Black Beauty, Luxe Lavender, and Vanilla Cream. Additionally, a special Moonlight Pearl design from Italy provides a unique touch, described as “soft and smooth to the touch.”
The Edge 50 Pro features the same 6.7-inch display as the Ultra but with a slightly lower peak brightness of 2000 nits. It includes a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
Internally, the Edge 50 Pro houses a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage, offering a compelling package. Priced starting at 699 euros ($744), it provides great value for a flagship device.
Motorola Edge 50 Fusion
Lastly, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion offers a budget-friendly option in the series. With a 6.7-inch OLED screen, it provides a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The camera setup includes a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 32MP selfie camera.
The Edge 50 Fusion comes with either a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 or a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, a 5000mAh battery, IP68 rating, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. Available starting at 399 euros ($425), it offers solid features at an affordable price.
You can’t buy these phones … yet
These Motorola phones are not yet available in the U.S. market. While they are currently only launching in select European, Latin American, and Asian regions, Motorola plans to expand the availability of the Edge 50 series to North America later this year.
Considering Motorola’s track record with previous releases, it may take some time for the Edge 50 series to reach U.S. shores. However, the wait seems promising, especially considering the features and value offered by the Edge 50 Ultra and Edge 50 Pro.
