Pre-registration is now open for Monument Valley 3, the upcoming mobile game from Netflix. Digital Trends has learned more details about the sequel and had a sneak peek at two of its chapters ahead of the announcement during Netflix Geeked Week.
Monument Valley 3 is the latest installment in the beloved mobile puzzle series, with the previous game being 2017’s Monument Valley 2. The new chapter will be available on mobile through Netflix on December 10. Netflix will also release the first two games on the service on September 19 and October 29, respectively.
According to developer Ustwo, Monument Valley 3 is the most expansive entry in the series yet. The story follows Nor, a lighthouse keeper’s apprentice, on a journey through mind-bending architecture. While the first game explored forgiveness and the second was a coming-of-age tale, the third installment focuses on hope and togetherness. Director Jennifer Estaris describes the story as one of resilience in the face of struggles, both in-game and in the real world.
During our preview, we saw two chapters that demonstrate the increased scale of the sequel compared to its predecessor. The first chapter showcased a sailing segment where Nor navigates a river on a boat, passing through gates. Unlike previous games, Nor has more room to explore in this segment, adding depth to the world beyond traditional puzzle chambers.
The second chapter featured unfolding cubes, resembling an M.C. Escher painting. Players can change the pathway by tapping to unfold cubes in the scenery, altering the room layout. This innovative gameplay maintains the mind-bending essence of the series while introducing new puzzle mechanics.
Although we have only seen a small glimpse of gameplay, Monument Valley 3 appears to stay true to the captivating puzzle formula of the first two games while introducing fresh gameplay ideas that expand the series.
Monument Valley 3 will launch on December 10 for iOS and Android via Netflix. Pre-registration is currently open.
