Windows users often find system updates to be disruptive, especially when they occur at inconvenient times. With the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 build, Microsoft is experimenting with “hot patching” for updates, which could eliminate the need for system reboots in some cases.
In the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26058, Microsoft is testing this dynamic updating method, commonly used in servers and Xbox consoles. While hot patching may only apply to monthly security updates initially, it could reduce the frequency of mandatory reboots significantly.
Despite the potential benefits, full implementation of hot patching in consumer versions of Windows is uncertain. It may be reserved for commercial clients like Windows 11 Enterprise or Education. If extended to Windows 11 Home and Professional editions, it would greatly improve the user experience.
