Snake is finally back and looking better than ever in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a project that was once just a rumor but has now been officially announced. This remake of the popular PlayStation 2 title, which was the third mainline entry in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, is highly regarded by fans and critics. However, there was skepticism about the idea of a remake being handled by a different team after series creator Hideo Kojima departed from Konami. Despite this, Konami is confident in the project and we will have to wait until its release to see the final product. Here’s everything we know about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
Release date window
Although there isn’t a solid release date listed, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was quietly featured in an official Sony video previewing 2024 releases. Barring any delays, it appears that the remake will be available this year.
Platforms
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is confirmed for all current-gen systems, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
Developer
In the absence of Kojima at Konami, the task of developing this remake was given to another studio. Konami issued a statement confirming the involvement of Virtuos, a development company that has cooperated with the past Metal Gear series, in leading the project alongside their own development team.
Trailers
The reveal trailer is focused on cinematics and didn’t show any gameplay. However, it did provide a glimpse of the jungle aspect of the original Metal Gear Solid 3, giving a hint at the enhanced and evolved features of combat survival in the remake. It’s still unclear whether the plot will remain untouched, as many fans hope it will, especially without Kojima’s involvement.
Gameplay
Aside from the statement about improved and updated survival combat, no further details about the gameplay have been revealed. It’s expected to remain primarily a third-person game and may include more modern mechanics and controls.
Preorder
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has no release window yet, so preorders are not available at this time. Stay tuned for updates on when preorders will be available.
