MAD Lions KOI’s rookie-filled roster had a strong start to their Worlds 2024 campaign, securing a 2-0 victory against Vietnam’s Vikings Esports, putting them just one win away from advancing to the Main Event.
Following the win, bot laner David “Supa” Martínez spoke to the media about the team’s solid drafts, utilizing the same champions in both games one and two.
“We believed our initial draft was strong, so we were surprised that the opponents didn’t make any changes. We stuck to our plan because we were confident in it and didn’t want to reveal more strategies. We are pleased with the outcome and our confidence in the plan paid off.”
Supa further discussed his Jinx pick, highlighting its versatility and strength in both laneswap and standard play. He expressed his satisfaction with the champion’s performance in the matches.
“I think Jinx is really strong right now, especially after the recent buff. We felt confident blind picking her, and the laneswap strategy worked well for us. The opponents tried to counter it in the second draft but were unsuccessful. Overall, I’m happy with how Jinx performed.”
When asked about competing in the familiar setting of Riot Games Arena in Berlin, Supa shared that the team chose to stay in a hotel for a different preparation experience ahead of Worlds. Despite the change, the pre-game atmosphere and hype video added to the excitement of the competition.
“We made efforts to emulate the Worlds experience by staying in a hotel for preparation. The pre-game hype video definitely added to the nerves, but it was a good kind of nervousness, enhancing the Worlds experience for us.”
MAD Lions KOI will now face PSG Talon in a crucial qualification match on Friday to secure their spot in the Main Event.
