Second Dinner, the developer behind Marvel Snap, is set to create its biggest game using the open-source engine Godot, through a newly formed strategic partnership with Irish games company W4 Games.
W4 Games, founded by experienced Godot developers, will help fast-track Second Dinner’s use of the open-source technology.
As part of the collaboration, Second Dinner has become a strategic investor in W4 Games, solidifying their long-term alliance.
“Pioneering Innovation”
Godot is a versatile, free game development tool favored by indie developers for creating engaging 2D and 3D games across various platforms. Launched in 2014, the engine powered over 2,000 commercially successful games last year.
With Second Dinner, renowned for Marvel Snap, jumping aboard the Godot bandwagon, the platform may witness an upsurge in new titles.
Ben Brode, Chief Development Officer at Second Dinner, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with W4 and leverage the capabilities of Godot. The engine’s open-source nature and active community will support our mission to deliver entertaining gaming experiences.”
Nicola Farronato, Co-CEO of W4 Games, shared his excitement, remarking, “Our goal at W4 Games has always been to make Godot the preferred game engine for top-tier developers. Partnering with Second Dinner aligns perfectly with this vision.”
Juan Linietsky, Creator of Godot Engine and Co-CEO of W4 Games, added, “Second Dinner epitomizes innovation and fearlessness in the gaming industry. Working with them to ensure the success of their upcoming projects is a privilege.”
Marvel Snap, created by Second Dinner, has garnered 21 awards and surpassed $250 million in mobile revenue, according to AppMagic data. Brode discussed Marvel Snap’s development and success at Gamescom, drawing parallels to hit games like Clash Royale.
