Apple released macOS Sequoia on Monday, but the update has caused issues with some networking and security tools from companies like Microsoft, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, and more, as reported by Bleeping Computer. Affected users on Reddit are sharing their problems with security software such as ESET Endpoint Security and CrowdStrike Falcon.
There are reports of firewalls causing packet corruptions, browser SSL failures, and issues with certain commands. Users can temporarily fix the problem by disabling these tools, but this is not an ideal solution for many.
Bleeping Computer obtained a bulletin where CrowdStrike advised users not to upgrade to macOS 15, stating, “Due to changes to internal networking structures on macOS 15 Sequoia, customers should not upgrade until a Mac sensor fully supports macOS 15 Sequoia.” SentinelOne Support also gave similar guidance.
ESET has issued an alert to affected users with instructions on resolving the issues. They recommend going to System Settings > Network > Filters > Remove ESET Network. ESET specifies compatibility only with Endpoint Security 8.1.6.0 or newer and ESET Cyber Security 7.5.74.0 or newer.
While some VPNs have encountered compatibility issues with macOS 15, Proton VPN remains unaffected and functions smoothly. Apple has not yet provided an official statement on the root cause, but a release note suggests that an outdated feature in macOS 15’s Firewall may be responsible.
This is not the first time Apple has faced issues with a new OS release, as seen with macOS Ventura. Security expert Patrick Wardle highlighted similar problems in a post on LinkedIn.
If you rely on these tools, it may be advisable to hold off on upgrading for now. Hopefully, Apple will address the issue promptly to ensure Mac users can enjoy the latest updates without compatibility concerns.
