Gametion’s Ludo King has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first mobile game from India to surpass one billion downloads on the Play Store. This not only marks a significant achievement for the developer but also for the Indian gaming industry as a whole.
This milestone comes shortly after Ludo King’s eighth anniversary and after a nine-year journey for Gametion, which initially started out creating browser games before transitioning to mobile gaming in 2013, a decision that has clearly paid off.
A Game Beyond Borders
Ludo King was first launched on iOS in February 2016 and later expanded to Android. Over the past eight years, it has attracted players from 30 countries and in 15 different languages. It has now become the first Indian mobile game to surpass one billion installs worldwide and has recently reached the milestone of one billion downloads on the Play Store alone.
While based on the traditional board game of ludo, which itself draws inspiration from an ancient Indian game called Pachisi, Ludo King has evolved to include new modes such as Rush Ludo, as well as sub-games like 7 Up Down and Snakes & Ladders, offering a diverse mobile gaming experience.
During the pandemic, when mobile gaming revenues saw a sharp increase, Gametion introduced a six-player mode to Ludo King, allowing for a more social gaming experience. Players have the flexibility to play with others globally or create private rooms with their Facebook friends.
Various themes have been integrated into the game over the years, from Egyptian-style to pinball, with seasonal themes like Monsoon Season introducing unique dice effects like Thunder Dice, Umbrella Dice, and Paper Boat Dice.
“We’re excited to announce that #LudoKing has achieved an incredible milestone of one billion downloads worldwide on #PlayStore! Our journey over the past nine years has been amazing, and we owe it all to our fantastic community of #Ludo players. Thank you for your continuous support and enthusiasm!” Gametion shared on LinkedIn.
“To celebrate this momentous occasion, we want to express our gratitude to the Ludo King team, whose innovative features have made the game so beloved.”
Last November, Google projected a 49% growth in India’s annual gaming revenue until 2028, estimating a valuation of $7.5 billion.
