Exciting news for League of Legends players – voice chat may finally be coming to the game! During a recent developer update from the Chinese team at Riot Games, a new feature called ‘team voice chat’ was teased. This announcement was part of the 13th-anniversary celebrations for the Chinese region.
The news was revealed on September 7th in an official Riot Games video posted on the Chinese social media platform BiliBili. Xiao K from the League of Legends Chinese server operations team shared the upcoming enhancements, with team voice chat being one of the most anticipated features. He mentioned, “This year, we have some exciting upgrades in product experience in store for everyone, including the highly anticipated team voice feature.”
While voice chat in League of Legends has been a long-awaited feature, this announcement from Riot is significant. Despite player demand, voice chat has been missing from LoL since its release, unlike Riot’s other game, VALORANT, which included it from the start. The community has often felt left behind compared to other competitive games that offer voice chat. Riot did introduce a party voice chat system years ago, but it only allowed communication with friends you queued up with, not with random teammates.
This exclusive first look for the Chinese region isn’t new – VALORANT mobile is currently in beta testing exclusively in China. Additionally, the upcoming TCG, Rune Battlegrounds, is expected to launch exclusively in China, with no immediate plans for a global release from Riot, according to reports.
