As of today, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is one of the best-selling games of January, according to Circana’s report. This once-niche Japanese crime series has completed its evolution into a wacky action-RPG, setting a high bar for other 2024 titles to beat. While I am a bit behind on my review, it’s due to the game’s abundance of sidequests that easily distract me.
In Infinite Wealth, Ichiban Kasuga’s life takes a dramatic turn when he embarks on a quest to find his birth mother in Hawaii. Unexpectedly, he encounters Kazuma Kiryu, his predecessor, who is battling lung cancer and trying to reconcile his complex past. Despite the serious undertones of Kiryu’s story, the game maintains a cheerful energy, making it a standout experience for me in 2024.
What else happened this week?
Aside from Infinite Wealth, my week has been consumed by the news of Xbox exclusives going multiplatform. The lack of fanfare around this shift is surprising, with notable titles like Grounded and Pentiment receiving varied levels of attention. It raises the question of whether the companies involved would have downplayed the announcements had we not known in advance.
