The LCS is set to make a significant change by returning to the Bo3 format starting from the 2024 Summer Split. This move, first reported by content creator Travis Gafford on his YouTube channel, aims to inject new energy into the NA league and enhance competition.
LCS to Return to Bo3 Format in Summer
This change will bring the LCS in line with LCK and LPL, adding more depth to the league and making it more attractive to viewers. Despite the switch, the number of play days is not expected to increase significantly, ensuring minimal impact on the schedule. Playoffs will still maintain the Bo5 format for exciting postseason action.
The announcement of this shift was well received by the community, recognizing it as another strategic move by LCS commissioner MarkZ to elevate the league’s status. Recent initiatives, such as playing matches on live patches and implementing a weekend schedule, have already boosted average viewership, according to Esports Charts.
Two-Week Break for Esports World Cup
Riot is planning a two-week break during the Summer Split to align with the 2024 Esports World Cup. This break, similar to the one in Spring for the VALORANT professional scene, aims to give players and teams a well-deserved pause in the midst of the split.
Prior to the start of the Summer Split, the LCS teams will have the opportunity to showcase their skills on the international stage at the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational in Chengdu in May. Represented by FlyQuest and Team Liquid, the region will aim to make a mark against global competition.
