- Kwalee expands presence in PC and console gaming
- Company has ambitious growth plans and will collaborate with industry leaders
UK-based game publisher and developer Kwalee has recently invested in developer and publisher Devolver Digital, marking its expansion into the PC and console gaming market.
Following a recent equity placement by Devolver on June 2nd, Kwalee acquired shares amounting to a 3.58% stake in the company, contributing to Devolver’s successful fundraising of £7.9 million ($10 million).
David Darling CBE, founder of Kwalee, expressed his gratitude to the Devolver team for the opportunity to invest in a reputable brand known for defining games in the industry.
Strategic Investment
According to an official statement, Kwalee’s investment in Devolver aligns with its strategic objective to achieve more balanced growth beyond its traditional focus on hyper-casual mobile gaming. This minority investment grants Kwalee increased access to the PC and console gaming sectors while maintaining its strong presence in the mobile gaming market.
Kwalee has ventured into the PC and console market with projects such as The Precinct, The Spirit of the Samurai, and In Sink, in addition to their successful release of Robobeat on Steam, which received a 97% positive rating.
In January, Kwalee also made a minority investment in French developer 8SEC to bolster its presence in hybrid casual gaming. The company recently launched Hitseeker, a publishing platform, and underwent a restructuring effort in April to optimize growth opportunities.
Industry Outlook
David Darling CBE expressed confidence in the long-term future of the gaming industry despite near-term challenges, citing changing economic dynamics and the growing importance of scale and financial stability. Kwalee remains committed to its growth plans and intends to collaborate with leading industry players to deliver enjoyable gaming experiences to players worldwide.
