Krafton has exciting plans for the future of PUBG, its hugely popular mobile game, according to insights from Goldman Sachs.
Goldman Sachs revealed that the South Korean company is preparing “incremental updates” to its strategy in order to sustain and expand PUBG. These updates include plans to franchise the PUBG IP through diversified genres, platforms, and play modes. Krafton is also working on a major graphics upgrade and intends to utilize Unreal Engine 5 for a PUBG 2.0 revamp.
The current version of PUBG uses a custom version of Unreal Engine 4. However, Krafton aims to leverage Unreal Engine 5’s advancements in achieving heightened realism and immersion while optimizing performance. Industry experts believe that Unreal Engine 5 will pave the way for more dynamic and detailed next-generation gaming experiences.
Krafton confirmed to TechCrunch that it is considering using Unreal Engine 5 for the “sustainable growth of the PUBG: Battlegrounds IP.”
The rise of PUBG in recent years has been monumental. With tens of millions of users worldwide, this online multiplayer battle royale game has become a global phenomenon.
Goldman Sachs also projected a positive outlook for PUBG’s PC and mobile apps, as well as BGMI, the India-only battle royale title. The firm reported that PUBG PC reached a peak concurrency of 600,000 users after the recent Rondo update in December 2023. Additionally, BGMI maintained its #1 position in gross ranking, leading Goldman Sachs to predict robust revenues for the game.
