Konami has recently inked an esports partnership with FIFA for the FIFAe world championships in 2024.
As part of this collaboration, two FIFAe World Cups featuring eFootball are taking place – one for console gaming and another for mobile gaming, where players can represent one of the 18 nations that have been invited.
The selected countries include nations from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, excluding the US. Regions were chosen based on player base and past competition performances, but players of other nationalities can still participate in qualifying rounds by selecting their preferred country from the list.
More information on the eligible nationalities can be found on eFootball’s website.
Two Companies, Two Platforms, Two Crowns
Qualifying rounds for the FIFAe World Cup kick off today, October 10th, for both console and mobile gamers. Console matches will be 2v2, while mobile matches will be 1v1.
Players looking to participate in the FIFAe World Cup 2024 must successfully clear a three-round qualifier phase. On mobile, these rounds will be in Dream Team mode, with authentic team usage required for eligible players thereafter.
The schedule for high-level tournaments will be announced later this year, with champions of this inaugural collaboration set to be crowned.
This collaboration comes after FIFA’s partnership with EA ended two years ago.
“At Konami, we have been persistent in innovating football simulation and esports,” said Konami Digital Entertainment senior executive officer Koji Kobayashi.
“We are thrilled to enhance the promotion of eFootball through our partnership with FIFAe. We are thankful to FIFA for this opportunity and eagerly await the start of the FIFAe World Cup.”
FIFA CBO Romy Gai added, “We are thrilled to work with Konami. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our goal to globally promote football and provide a platform for players to showcase their talents. We believe in an inclusive environment that allows various communities to participate in FIFAe competitions.”
A representative from the Japan Football Association commented, “eFootball has been cherished worldwide for years and has a strong following in Japan, becoming a key platform for the football community. The newly introduced FIFAe World Cup featuring eFootball will be the ultimate dream for e-football players.”
