Movistar KOI secured victories against BBL Esports and Team Liquid, avoiding an early exit from the VCT EMEA Kickoff. While they stumbled in the play-in matches against Vitality and KCorp, the team displayed great potential with their roster.
During the matches, team captain Patryk “starxo” Kopczyński shared insights with Lee Jones.
Lee Jones: This is your first time playing with the complete roster since it was finalized later than other teams. How do you feel about the new lineup?
starxo: We’ve been pleasantly surprised with our performance so far. Despite only having a month of practice, the team has played exceptionally well. The positive atmosphere within the team has made everyone feel comfortable and at home, which has translated into our gameplay.
Lee Jones: Facing elimination today and potentially having a long break from competitive play, would you prefer a busier schedule?
starxo: Of course, we all want to compete more frequently. Playing on stage is what we strive for, and having more tournaments like in CS would be exciting for both players and viewers. While we aim to qualify for as many events as possible, we understand the importance of competition and the need to constantly improve.
During the off-season, we focused on trials to solidify our roster. Despite some setbacks, we started practicing fully in January and have received great support from the organization. Our goal for 2024 is to qualify for every tournament possible and to improve our consistency as a team.
Lee Jones: With the return of Icebox to the map pool, do you feel confident in your strategy on that map?
starxo: Icebox has been a strong map for us as the overall gameplay has remained consistent. While teams may experiment with different compositions, the core strategies have stayed the same. This stability has worked well for us in our matches.
In summary, Movistar KOI has shown promise in the VCT EMEA Kickoff despite facing challenges. The team’s focus on improvement and consistency bodes well for their future performances.
