Mortal Kombat 1 made a big impact in the fighting game community last year. However, since its release, several issues have arisen. Compared to other titles like SF 6, Mortal Kombat’s support has fallen short. The latest player to express frustration with the game is SonicFox, hinting that they may soon quit Mortal Kombat 1.
SonicFox is a well-known cross fighting game player, with strong results in the Mortal Kombat series. Despite diving into Mortal Kombat 1 upon release, a lack of communication and significant game problems might lead to SonicFox quitting the game in the near future.
Is SonicFox Quitting Mortal Kombat?
In a recent Twitter post, SonicFox expressed frustration with the current direction of Mortal Kombat. They wrote, “I am hopeful that it is not too late for MK1 to get back on the right track. I know there are certain things that are completely WB’s fault and not necessarily NRS, but it doesn’t change the situation we are in. If not, I will drop the game. I’ve done this many times already.”
The tweet seems to acknowledge some of the bigger problems with the game without naming them. Frustration over MK 1’s netcode and the continued lack of support for crossplay is evident. Additionally, the esports for the title has left much to be desired.
The Capcom Cup and TWT have both become huge events this year, while MK has had the Po Kompetition launch, a new tournament. However, it has failed to reach the same scale as the Capcom Cup. This means that players grinding MK 1 don’t have the same opportunities as those competing in other major fighting games.
Mortal Kombat 1 still has a lot of potential, and most of its major problems are fixable. Hopefully, progress can be made before too many players leave the game. Along with SonicFox threatening to quit Mortal Kombat, other players have echoed the same sentiment.
