Apple has just revealed its latest lineup of iPhone 16 models featuring the powerful A18 chip, which promises a 30% increase in sustained gaming performance.
The range includes the standard iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple claims that the new six-core CPU is 30% faster than the A16 Bionic chip and is able to run the same workload using 30% less power. The five-core GPU is also up to 40% faster and 35% more efficient.
With hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, games on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus now offer up to 5x higher frame rates than with software-based ray-tracing. Apple asserts that the chip delivers up to 30% higher sustained performance for gaming.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will support popular “triple-A” games like Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Village, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which have collectively generated 2.2 million downloads and $1.4 million in revenue according to AppMagic. Apple also mentioned forthcoming titles like Tencent’s Honor of Kings: World with “ultra graphics mode.”
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will feature the A18 Pro chip, boasting a GPU that is up to 20% faster and a CPU that can handle workloads 15% faster while using 20% less power compared to the previous A17 Pro chip.
Apple AI
Among the standout features of the latest iPhones is Apple Intelligence support, set to be available as a free software update next month in U.S. English and various other regions.
Notable capabilities include text rewriting, proofreading, and summarization across Apple and third-party apps, along with the ability to record, transcribe, and summarize audio, including phone calls.
iOS 18 will also offer access to OpenAI’s generative AI technology ChatGPT while using Siri and Writing Tools.
The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max will launch in over 58 countries, including the US, UK, China, and Germany, on September 20th. Pre-orders open on September 13th.
Pricing starts at $799 for the iPhone 16, $899 for the iPhone 16 Plus, $999 for the iPhone 16 Pro, and $1,199 for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
