Apple Maps has finally introduced a highly requested feature – the ability to “Search Here” on the map. With the rollout of iOS 18, users can now search for a specific location on the map even if it’s not their current location.
Prior to this update, users had to constantly move and zoom the map to find locations, a process that could be frustrating and time-consuming. The addition of the “Search Here” button has been well-received by users, addressing a major pain point.
According to 9to5Mac, the new feature also allows for more precise searching, enabling users to specify locations with greater accuracy.
While Google Maps has had this feature for years, Apple Maps users can now enjoy a smoother and more efficient searching experience.
In addition to the “Search Here” feature, Apple Maps has undergone various UI enhancements, making it easier for users to identify points of interest. Some notable improvements include custom routes for walking and hiking, a topographic map layer, offline hiking support, and the ability to save notes for the trail.
iOS 18 is currently in beta and is expected to be available to all users in the fall, likely around mid-to-late September. The update will bring a host of new features and improvements to iPhone users, with compatibility ranging from iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd generation to iPhone XR, and exclusive features for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
