Inworld AI, a gaming-focused generative AI startup, has added multilingual support for Mandarin (simplified Chinese), Japanese, and Korean. These tools will allow creators to seamlessly localize both the language and cultural context of their games.
With its new suite of localization tools, Inworld AI will help game creators reach new audiences in some of the world’s most valuable gaming markets. According to Newzoo, China, Japan, and Korea account for over 800 million players that spent a combined $70.5 billion in 2023. Together, these three markets represent roughly a quarter of all players and 40% of global video game spending.
Inworld’s new features will allow creators to reach a wider audience and improve discoverability and ratings in these markets. According to the company, localization is correlated with higher ratings on both Steam and app stores. In other words, games without proper localization can lead to frustrated players, negative reviews, and lower reach.
These tools will help Inworld serve a new use case — helping it reach lofty investor expectations. In August 2023, the company raised $50 million at a $500 million valuation.

How Inworld’s multilingual support works
Inworld built its multilingual support tools using LLMs that are optimized for natural conversation in the target languages. Using native dialog, rather than translating to and from English, better preserved the naturalness and cultural context.
Inworld worked with external partners including LG U+ and dentsu to get feedback while developing its localization tools.
Creators can now configure AI characters in Chinese Mandarin, Japanese, or Korean using Inworld. During this process, developers can specify verbatim phrases, regional accents, and safety settings for each character in different markets. These multilingual tools are also available for Inworld’s Voice API offering, allowing creators to generate voices for their AI-powered characters.
Inworld plans to expand its Multilingual support to other languages. Currently, the company is focused on adding support for French, German, and Portuguese among others. With these three languages, Inworld will allow developers to reach nine out of the top ten gaming markets by revenue in their native language.
