Indaband is a new social media app that enables musicians and vocalists to collaborate, creating music with people worldwide. The app aims to connect individuals who play instruments, allowing them to feel like part of a global band. Users can record themselves playing an instrument, and others can add their own videos of playing on top of the original recording.
To start using Indaband, all you need are headphones and a smartphone to record. You can upload pre-recorded files as new tracks or use the app’s recording booth to layer your tracks on top of someone else’s. The multi-track video studio feature allows you to record and mix unlimited video tracks across different sessions, which you can then share with the community. Indaband notifies you when others collaborate on your tracks, showcasing their unique contributions.
The app was conceived by CEO Daniel Murta, CTO Andrews Medina, Head of Engineering Helielson Santos, and Design Leader Emerson Farias. The idea emerged during their time at Jusbrasil, a legal technology company Murta co-founded. They developed Indaband as a solution to continue making music together amid the pandemic, eventually transitioning to focus on the app full-time.
Indaband’s mission is to simplify music creation and collaboration, offering a user-friendly experience on smartphones. The app features curated playlists covering various genres like rock, jazz, hip-hop, and EDM, enabling users to engage with and repost content.
Future plans for Indaband include introducing “Circles,” akin to clubs on Strava, where users can form communities and potentially host live events. The app aims to empower creators by potentially offering paid content, such as virtual lessons from established musicians.
While Indaband currently attracts skilled musicians, its future focus will expand to include beginners, fostering a vibrant musical community. The app recently secured $7 million in seed funding, supported by angel investors like Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger and ex-Megadeth guitarist Kiko Loureiro, along with Latin American VC firms.
Available for free on iOS and Android, Indaband offers a platform for collaborative music creation and exploration.
