The worst thing Hades 2 could do is ruin Hades.
The original Hades, a critically acclaimed action game by Supergiant Games, is considered one of the best games ever made. It would be a shame if the highly replayable roguelike was overshadowed by a sequel that simply repeats what Hades did. Fortunately, it seems like Hades 2 will not fall into that trap.
I’ve had the opportunity to play the technical test of Hades 2 over the past few days. From battling through the initial game area, unlocking available weapons, to exploring the various systems, I have seen that Hades 2 is not content with just building on its predecessor.
Note: We’ll be discussing some elements of Hades 2 found in the first area of the game, including new characters and systems.
Different, not better
As a self-proclaimed Hades veteran, I was initially taken aback by Hades 2. Having spent over 100 hours in the original game, I was used to its mechanics. However, Hades 2 forced me to adapt and think differently, starting with the dash mechanic.
