Hyundai is set to launch a range of electric vehicles in the near future, including a three-row SUV made in America. In addition to its electric lineup, Hyundai is also investing in other technologies, such as an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) system that offers a driving range of over 550 miles.
The EREV system uses a gasoline engine as a generator to produce electricity for the motors that drive the wheels, providing all-wheel drive capabilities. This technology, similar to the Chevrolet Volt, offers advantages like quicker recharging times, a lower price point, and an extended driving range.
Hyundai also has plans for electric vehicles, with the production version of the Seven concept, known as the Ioniq 9, expected to feature electric power and a spacious three-row interior. The brand is also expanding its hybrid lineup across small, large, and luxury vehicles to double the number of gasoline-electric models in its portfolio.
Hyundai’s next-generation hybrid system will debut in January 2025, followed by a new Android-based infotainment system in the first half of 2026. EREV-powered Hyundai and Genesis SUVs will begin production in North America by the end of 2026, and a new type of EV battery for volume models is expected by 2030.
