If you are not a fan of PC hardware ecosystems where you have to make hardware compromises, Hyte may have a solution for you. Hyte, the brand known for cases like the Y40 and Y60, has introduced an intriguing option at CES 2024.
They are calling it Nexus Link, named after the Nexus software used for cases like the Hyte Y70. The concept is simple — consolidate all the cables used for power, lighting, sensors, and cooling through a single connection. These devices are managed through the Nexus software, allowing easy control of lighting, fan speed, and more.
The ecosystem is based on two connectors. Hyte uses a Type-C connector for devices like RGB lighting strips, and a Type-M connector for components like fans. The Type-M connection is wireless, enabling instant connection using magnetic pins to transfer power and data for the fans.
While similar products have been seen in the past, Hyte stands out by allowing you to chain together up to 18 devices on a single port. Each component in the chain is referred to as a “node,” and is equipped with its own microcontroller for data and power. Some Nexus Link devices, such as the Nexus Portal NP50, even have their own processor and sensors to monitor temperature and noise inside the machine, all through a single cable.
The Thicc Q60 all-in-one liquid cooler is the primary node in the Nexus Link chain and serves as a starting point for expanding your ecosystem. Hyte’s Nexus Link allows flexibility without requiring an extra, specialized controller. You just need a primary node, some secondary nodes, and a little bit of foresight to plan out how everything will fit together.
Furthermore, Hyte’s Nexus Link ecosystem is not exclusive, as the Thicc FP12 fans still work over traditional 4-pin pulse-width modulation (PWM). This allows usage as regular fans without needing to be part of the Nexus Link ecosystem.
Hyte’s Nexus Link ecosystem is a game-changer, allowing you to overcome cable clutter and supporting a large number of components over a single cable. Products within the Nexus Link ecosystem are currently available for purchase, and it is expected that Hyte will expand its offerings in the future.
