Did you know you can use your Amazon Echo smart speaker or your Echo Show smart display as a doorbell chime? As long as you have a compatible doorbell product that Alexa can connect with, you’ll be able to receive doorbell notifications in the form of audible chimes, as well as video live-feeds (if you’re using an Echo Show).
The process of linking your compatible doorbell product to Amazon Alexa is straightforward, and we’ve prepared a step-by-step guide to assist you.
Install a compatible video doorbell
Amazon’s Echo requires a compatible smart doorbell to establish a connection. Without the right doorbell, this feature is not possible. Amazon offers a list of compatible doorbells, and for this example, we’ll use a Ring Video Doorbell. Ring doorbells work well with Alexa and are a good choice for demonstration purposes.
Mount and set up your video doorbell, connect it to Wi-Fi, and ensure it’s functioning properly. Once set up, proceed to work with your Echo.
Enable the corresponding skill on the Alexa app
Step 1: Open your Alexa app, go to More, then select Skills & Games.
Step 2: Search for the corresponding Alexa Skill for your smart device by typing “Ring” in the search bar. Select the Ring skill from the results.
Note: You can also use voice commands, but it’s recommended to use the app if voice recognition is a challenge.
