Many people believe that this is a specific feature of Zoom or WhatsApp, but in reality, it’s an Apple feature integrated into iOS and Mac devices. However, you can disable the reactions feature to prevent these effects from showing up on screen during work calls.
How to Disable Video Call Reactions on a Mac
During a video call on your Mac, click on the video menu located in the menu bar (a green camera icon at the top right of your screen). Then select the Reactions option from the drop-down menu to deactivate reactions for all video calls.
How to Disable Video Call Reactions on an iPhone
While on a video call on your iPhone, access the Control Center and tap on the video tab. Under this tab, tap on the reactions option to turn off gesture-based effects.
With the release of iOS 17.4 earlier this year, Apple provided developers of third-party video call apps with the ability to disable these reactions by default. Therefore, if your preferred video call app has implemented this change, manual disabling of reactions may not be necessary.
