If you want to maximize the use of the Nintendo Switch, gamesharing is the way to go. Similar to the Xbox Series X and the PS5, it’s an effective way to enjoy more games without spending a fortune. With a digital copy of a game, you can share that game with friends who have the original Switch, Switch OLED, or even the Switch Lite. Below are the instructions on how to gameshare on Nintendo Switch.
What you need to know before getting started
If you’re planning to gameshare, it’s important to note that gamesharing only works with digital games. Also, keep in mind that only one player can access the game at a time. The primary console has access to all the games, both online and offline, while the secondary console can only access games when connected to the internet.
How to gameshare
To get started with gamesharing, follow these steps:
Step 1: Purchase the game with your Nintendo account. Buy the game from the eShop using your Nintendo account.
Step 2: Download the game to your system.
Step 3: De-register your first Switch as your primary console.
Step 4: Make the second Switch your new primary console.
Step 5: Sign in to the second Nintendo Switch with your Nintendo account.
Step 6: Download the game you want to play.
How to play online at the same time
When playing online at the same time, the console you’re sharing with needs to have a different Nintendo account signed in to access the games. If you’re both online using the same account, the game will be paused on the first Switch.
The fine print
Non-primary accounts need to be connected to the internet to access games. Also, note that both players cannot play the game simultaneously. And remember, you can still download any other games associated with your Nintendo account.
Words of warning
Do not delete your Nintendo Switch user profile from your first Switch system during this process, as it will erase saved data stored locally on the machine. Additionally, local cooperative games cannot be played together using this method.
