New subscribers can enjoy a free one-month trial of Apple Music. After the trial, memberships are billed on a monthly or yearly basis. The Individual plan costs $11 per month or $109 per year. College students can get a discounted rate of $6/month, and there’s also a Family plan available for $17 per month.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up Apple’s Family Sharing feature and add users to your account. By the end, you’ll have multiple family members streaming music under one subscription.
Before you get started
To follow the instructions in this guide, you’ll need an Apple ID and an Apple Music Family subscription. Make sure you choose the Family subscription when setting up Apple Music. What is Family Sharing?
Family Sharing is a feature that allows you to share content, including Apple Music, across multiple Apple services. For $17 per month, account administrators can host up to six Apple Music users under one subscription. Each user retains their preferences and recommendations.
With purchase sharing enabled, the entire family can share movies, shows, books, and music, as long as the purchasing user approves sharing for other members.
Setting up Family Sharing

Setting up Family Sharing on iOS
If you’re on an iPhone or iPad, you can set up Family Sharing easily:
Step 1: Open the Settings app, tap on your name, or scroll down to iCloud settings.
Step 2: Tap Family Sharing and then Set Up Your Family. Follow the prompts to invite and add family members.
Step 3: Invite family members by going to Settings and then Family.
Step 4: Tap Add Member to invite members via Messages.
Follow the on-screen instructions to invite family members and create a Child account if needed.
Setting up Family Sharing on Mac
If you’re using a Mac, setting up Family Sharing is straightforward:
Step 1: Open System Settings or System Preferences by clicking the Apple logo and select Family Sharing.
Step 2: Find the Family Sharing option and select it.
Step 3: Click Set Up Family if it’s your first time setting up Family Sharing.
Step 4: Add members by clicking Add member and following the on-screen instructions.
Step 5: Invite family members to join and start sharing Apple Music.
Start using Apple Music
Once Family Sharing is set up, family members can start using Apple Music by logging in with their Family Sharing credentials.
