- Westall’s team is dedicated to creating a top-notch work environment for top talent and pushing the boundaries of gaming
- “Every game we develop is designed to be cross-platform right from the start”
Day one of Develop: Brighton kicked off with a presentation titled ‘Cross-platform in action: Taking a game from mobile to console’. Super Evil Megacorp’s Director of product management, Tom Westall, shared insights on the company’s cross-platform approach and the process of transitioning TMNT: Splintered Fate from mobile to console.
Westall highlighted that Super Evil Megacorp currently has a team of 100 developers working remotely, focusing on delivering results rather than adhering to set hours. The team’s goal is to create an exceptional work environment for top-notch talent and continue pushing the boundaries of gaming in the long run.
After the game’s success on Apple Arcade, the team explored bringing it to other platforms to reach a wider audience beyond subscription players. Following discussions with Apple and other platform holders, Super Evil Megacorp decided to launch the game on Nintendo Switch.
Three C’s
Super Evil Megacorp’s strategy for cross-platform development involves prioritizing controls, camera, and character aspects from the early stages of game development. Westall emphasized the importance of building a game with cross-platform compatibility in mind from the beginning to ensure a seamless player experience across different platforms.
“It’s much easier to build a cross-platform game from the beginning rather than trying to bring those aspects in later. So in the early prototype phase, we explore different ways to play, be that from the controls you’re using to the way the camera works.
“By doing this you can see what works where and what doesn’t. Players should always feel like first-class citizens no matter what platform they are playing from. So the core of our games must always hold up well with the three C’s”
Super Evil Megacorp is set to launch TMNT: Splintered Fate on Nintendo Switch on July 17th.
